393 RESPONSES SO FAR / SURVEY STILL OPEN

BY BEING INCLUSIVE YOU’RE NATURALLY EXCLUDING PEOPLE.

a statement i stuck on while building a brand book for a rebrand. and a statement i couldn't let go, so i sat on it, then i decided to do something about it, after seeing the term womxn getting more and more popular.

the instagram post that started it all

393 (so far) trans, non-binary and queer people told me which words used to describe them actually feel inclusive, and which just sound like marketing waffle. the survey's still open — the more people who answer, the stronger the picture gets. if you're trans, non-binary, queer, or fit the mould of "marginalised genders," it takes about 5 minutes.

before you go further — i did this in my spare time. no funding, no team, no research background — just curiosity, stubbornness, and an instagram post. the survey's still open, and it'll stay open.

why this exists

nobody asked us what actually works

more and more brands, orgs, communities and spaces are reaching for words like women+, womxn, FLINTA, marginalised genders — using them more and more often, and mostly without asking the people they're meant to describe whether the words land. i did a quick google, got bored of digging, and decided to just ask instead.

what this survey does

-tests six terms currently in circulation - FLINTA, marginalised genders, women+/womxn, gender minorities, trans and non-binary inclusive, queer

-asks trans, non-binary and queer people directly whether each one feels inclusive of them

-stays open - this isn't a one-off snapshot, it updates as more people answer

-feeds a report that's pay-what-you-want, funding gender affirming care

add your answers

the more people who answer, the harder this is to ignore.

takes about 5 minutes. no wrong answers - this is your language, so you decide what feels right.

how can i take this to my brand
